About London Waterloo Station Hotels
Waterloo Station, also known as London Waterloo, is a major railway terminus in central London, owned and operated by Network Rail, located in Lambeth, a district of south London, part of the London Borough of Lambeth, near the South Bank, in Travelcard Zone 1. It is Britain's busiest railway station, in terms of passenger throughput, and its most important long-distance destinations are Portsmouth, Southampton and Bournemouth, all on the south coast.
The station became UK's busiest railway station due to efficiency, but also, due to the fact that, in the area surrounding the South Bank, a tourist area has developed around the former GLC headquarters of County Hall and the Royal Festival Hall and National Theatre. Close-by, also on the river, there is the London Eye and Hayward Gallery, two of London's most popular attractions, and the station's proximity also includes Lambeth Palace, the official London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, chief bishop and principal leader of the Church of England, the symbolic head of the worldwide Anglican Communion, and the diocesan bishop of the Diocese of Canterbury.
In fewer words, London Waterloo Station is one of the "modern gateways" to the historic city of London, Britain's most loved and most visited city.
